Universal Free Meals

Dear Families -

We are very appreciative of your patience as we all are looking forward to anything that resembles spring.

Clarification That Universal Free Meals Starts Next School Year for Students Who Do Not Qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch Benefits: As you may realize, Governor Walz signed into law the Universal Free Meals, including breakfast and lunch, become available for all Minnesota schools participating in the National School Lunch Program (which we do).

The effective date for this program is July 1, 2023, or the 2023-24 school year.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune had an article that published incorrectly that it became effective Monday.

Here are the links to this bill if you would like to review: House File 5  and Senate File 123.

Thank you,
Kevin Enerson, Superintendent
