Welcome to the School Social Work Corner of the Pipestone Area School’s website! My name is Sarah Vining or "Mrs. Sarah." I am a School Social Worker for Pipestone Area Schools and the SW/WC Service Cooperative. This is my 1st year with the district. I am very excited to get to know all of the students and families this year, and I'm thrilled to get to work in the great community of Pipestone!
I grew up in Sioux Falls, SD and now live there again! I graduated from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana with my Bachelors in Social Work. After graduation I spent a year in Anchorage, Alaska as a full time faith community volunteer working with homeless youth with an organization called Covenant House. I then returned home to Sioux Falls and completed the Masters in Social Work program from the University of South Dakota and am a Licensed Graduate School Social Worker.
This summer was great! I enjoyed spending time with my family out in the Black Hills. We did lots of hiking, kayaking, and just enjoying the outdoors! My sisters and their families plus my husband John and our two huskies Taven and Snow made for a busy but fun week. My husband John is a golf coach at the University of South Dakota, so we enjoyed some golf outings this summer as well. I officially played my first round of golf this summer, otherwise I usually enjoy the golf course by riding in the golf cart! I love to play other sports, including basketball, softball, and ultimate frisbee. Summer leagues of softball and frisbee made the summer fly by! This is a bit about me-and I am looking forward to getting to know you all as the year progresses!
Mrs. Paige and I will be working together at Brown and Hill this year, so please feel free to contact either one of us throughout the year. We will collaborate and work together on providing services!
As a school social worker, we can offer a variety of resources and benefits to you and your child. Please look through this website to learn more about what we do, and don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or comments. The following link also provides more information on school social workers http://msswa.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/MSSWA-Brochure.pdf. Both of these websites will help you understand how valuable a school social worker can be in assisting your child.
